Jesus is Enough

Series: Colossians

Book: Colossians

Scripture: Colossians 2:16-23

In Colossians 2:16-23, Paul confronts the pressure believers faced to add religious performance to the finished work of Christ. Some insisted on strict food laws and festivals. Others emphasized mystical visions and spiritual experiences. Still others promoted harsh self discipline and self made religion.

This sermon unpacks Paul’s clear message: Jesus is enough.

Clay explains how the Old Testament laws functioned as shadows pointing to Christ, and how returning to them as requirements for salvation minimizes the cross. He also addresses the temptation to measure spiritual maturity by emotional experiences or extreme self denial.

The gospel frees us from the need to prove ourselves. We do not climb up to God through performance. We do not earn our standing through rituals. We do not secure acceptance through suffering.

Christ has fulfilled the law, canceled our debt, and secured our freedom.

This message calls us to stand firm in that freedom and to rest in the sufficiency of Jesus.
