Series: Colossians

Book: Colossians

Scripture: Colossians 3:5-11

In Colossians 3:5-11, Paul addresses the ongoing struggle Christians experience with sin. Even though believers have been given new life in Christ, the habits and patterns of the old life can still linger.

In this sermon, Jared explains how Paul calls believers to put sin to death and to put away the attitudes and behaviors that no longer match their identity in Christ. These sins, including lust, greed, anger, slander, and deceit, grow out of idolatry when created things take the place of God in our hearts.

But the message of the gospel is not simply that we must try harder. Paul reminds us that followers of Jesus have already died with Christ and been raised to new life. Because of that reality, believers are called to live in a way that reflects who they now are.

This message shows how God’s grace not only saves us from sin but also works within us to transform our hearts and renew us into the image of Christ.
