Book: 1 Peter

Scripture: 1 Peter 3:8-17

In 1 Peter 3:8–17, Peter teaches believers how to respond when they face opposition for following Jesus. Living as exiles in a world that often rejects God’s truth can be difficult, but Christians are called to respond differently than the culture around them.

This sermon explores how the church is meant to function as a family marked by unity, compassion, humility, and brotherly love. As believers encourage and support one another, they are strengthened to remain faithful in the midst of hardship and hostility.

Peter also addresses how Christians should respond when they are insulted, mocked, or mistreated. Rather than returning evil for evil, believers are called to bless those who oppose them and to pursue peace whenever possible. This unusual response puts the hope of the gospel on display for others to see.

At the center of this passage is Jesus Himself. He endured rejection, suffering, and the cross in order to save sinners and secure an eternal inheritance for His people. Because of that, Christians can endure suffering with confidence, knowing that their hope is secure in Him.

This message encourages believers to live faithfully, speak graciously, and always be prepared to explain the reason for the hope they have in Christ.
